A 2-storey rest house located in Calinan, Davao City, this project harmoniously fuses modern architecture with the traditional Bahay Kubo, creating a home that bridges the past and the present. The result is a refined yet grounded space that celebrates Filipino heritage while embracing contemporary living.
ABOUT CALINAN REST HOUSE
The Calinan Rest House embodies the fusion of modern minimalism and vernacular tradition. It takes inspiration from the simplicity and functionality of the Bahay Kubo—adapted for the tropical climate—while integrating the clarity, proportion, and sophistication of modern design.
Elevated on signature stilts, the structure references indigenous Filipino building techniques that promote natural ventilation, flood protection, and environmental adaptability. Locally sourced materials such as bamboo, nipa, and hardwood give the home a sense of authenticity and tactile richness, creating a space deeply rooted in its cultural and physical context.
